Why I build tiny tools

I have a folder full of little tools I've written for myself. A script that renames photos the way I like. A tiny page that tells me when to leave for the train. None of them are impressive. Most took an afternoon, and a few are held together with tape.

I used to feel a bit embarrassed about that — like real work should be bigger, or shared, or at least polished. But these small tools have quietly changed how my days go. They remove a tiny bit of friction I'd otherwise just live with forever.

A few things I've come to like about building small:

• It's finished before I lose interest.
• If it breaks, I'm the only one inconvenienced.
• It solves my actual problem, not an imagined one.

So this site has a corner for them. Nothing here is meant to be a product. It's just a record of small itches I finally got around to scratching.
